How to get to Donostia-San Sebastián

Located 20 km away from the French border, next to San Sebastian, Biarritz (France) & Bilbao airports and connected via road and train.

1. International / Domestic Airline access

San Sebastián has 3 airports (2 international) within just over 100 km of the city.

 

Only 20 kilometers from the city center, San Sebastián Airport has connections to the major Spanish cities; Madrid and Barcelona.

 

Biarritz Airport, served by French and international low-cost companies, is 47km far from San Sebastian.

 

Bilbao Airport, with connections to all Europe, is 105 km from the city.

There is a shuttle bus service from Madrid Airport ( Barajas, Terminal T4 ) to San Sebastián in 5h30.

San Sebastián has a large city bus fleet run by the company Dbus for cheap, fast and easy city travel. Take a look at the different lines on the Dbus website.

Times

The times change depending on the line. Most services start at 07h30 and end at 22h30. The times and frequency of the different services can be found at the respective bus stops.

Dbus runs a night service known as the “Búho” (Owl). Most of the night bus lines start at 12 o’clock midnight and end at 4 in the morning. The Búhos only run on Fridays, Saturdays and the nights before public holidays. All leave from the Boulevard.

San Sebastián is people-friendly; it is easy to get around using the public transport services that connect the different parts of the city. The tourist card on public transport, and offers you excellent discounts in museums, restaurants, and shops

Taxis

San Sebastián has a large and modern fleet of taxis available 24hrs a day. The rates are official and operate with a taxi meter. In San Sebastián, unlike in other cities, taxis do not normally stop when hailed in the street. The best idea is to head for a taxi rank or phone for one.

VISA INFORMATION

Entry into Spain for stays not exceeding 90 days within a 180-day period is subject to the conditions provided for in Regulation (EU) Nº 2016/399, of the European Parliament and of the Council, of 9 March 2016 on a Union Code on the rules governing the movement of persons across borders (Schengen Borders Code).

 

Owning a valid passport or travel document

The document must be valid for at least three months following the projected exit from the territory of the Members States and must have been issued within the last ten years. Citizens from any State of the European Union, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein only need a valid national identity document or passport. Citizens from the United Kingdom and Ireland will require a passport since their countries are not members of the Schengen Area. In the event of a minor traveling with a national identity document, the latter must be accompanied by parental authorization.

 

Owning a valid visa

This is required of nationals of third countries included on the list of countries whose nationals must have a visa when crossing the external borders, unless in possession of a valid residence permit or a valid long-term visa issued by another Member State.
